Published 24 May 2025

Dorset Council received a total of 375 responses to the consultation and thanks all those that got involved. Your feedback will be carefully analysed and the strategy will be updated. A summary of the consultation findings will also be published.

The final version of the strategy will then be presented to BCP Council and Natural England as part of the formal pre-publication approval process this autumn.

A shared vision for nature in Dorset

Wildlife in Dorset is declining and spaces for nature are disappearing, but we can change that.

In July 2023 Dorset Council was appointed as the responsible authority to lead the preparation of a Local Nature Recovery Strategy to help restore and protect nature in our county, working closely with BCP Council and Natural England as supporting authorities, and a wide range of local people and organisations.

The result is a draft strategy document (available below) that provides a framework showing where the most valuable areas for nature currently are, and identifies a range of opportunities to restore, grow and connect nature across the county over the next 10 years. We are pleased to invite you to read about the shared vision that has been developed and add your voice to the public consultation that runs from 7 May to 30 July.
