Proposal for a new play space at Landford Way, Bournemouth
This proposal forms part of BCP Council’s ongoing Plan for Play strategy which is investing more than £4.6million into improving 120 play spaces across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.
The focus of the strategy is on developing accessible, inclusive, high quality play spaces.
The proposal for the Muscliff & Strouden Park area (Zone 7, below) is to repurpose a few smaller play spaces where the play equipment is reaching end of life, to complete defect repairs in other play spaces and provide a new play space in a centralised location.
We have identified the open space at Landford Way as a centralised location within the residential area – potentially making it ideal for a new play space – and we want to hear from the community about their preferences.

Map ID 75 Kingfisher Barn Visitor Centre; the site is now managed by the BCP Countryside team and is outside the scope of this project.
Map ID 108 Noyce Gardens skate ramp; due to a significant number of defects and H&S concerns the skate ramp has been removed.
Defect repairs– where priority repairs are required to pieces of play equipment with problems, such as broken swing seats, poor surfacing and moving parts.
Refurbishment– a mid-range intervention is required with some equipment to be replaced and other equipment to be improved e.g. new swing seats or multi-unit.
Replacement– where sites are beyond end of life and in need of redesign and full replacement. There could also be opportunities to close multiple small sites in a geographic area and provide a single new play space nearby.
Repurpose greenspace –where a play space has a large number of defects, low play value, is underused, poorly located or is in close proximity to other sites in better condition; play equipment would be removed and an alternative use found for the space. New play space– where a new location has been identified as an improvement to the existing play offer in an area.
It is important to note we will not be repurposing any play spaces until the new play space is installed.

Further consultation is needed to fully understand the level of community support for a new play space at Landford Way, or whether there is preference for an alternative.
