It’s all systems go for major upgrades at Hatchards Field!
The play area, near to Rossmore Road, is set for a space-themed refurbishment as part of BCP Council’s Plan for Play strategy.
Featuring a bold, bright, red colour palette, the design is inspired by space and the ideas of local children, young people and families, as part of our community consultation.
There will be two new space-themed multi-play units – a larger one for juniors with towers, slides and a fireman’s pole, and a smaller one for toddlers.
Two new sets of swings will include different types of seats for all ages and abilities. There will also be quieter areas with seating for relaxing as well as an accessible roundabout and springy see-saw. ‘Meteorite’ clusters and a starship adventure play unit encourage future astronauts to climb and explore with freedom.
Work will get underway on 14 September and is expected to be completed by the end of October.
Cllr Sandra Moore, BCP Council’s portfolio holder for play strategy, said:
“This design focuses on what local families told us they wanted to see from their new equipment: something that is challenging, adventurous and imaginative. Our suppliers, Jupiter, have pulled together something truly fantastic and I can’t wait to see the work progress.
“This is another fantastic example of how we can work with residents to deliver on their priorities and put play back at the heart of communities.”
The major refurbishment is the latest in BCP Council’s multi-million pound commitment to putting play back at the heart of communities. Plan for Play, first approved by Cllrs in December 2024, is seeing upgrades, improvements and repair at around 100 play areas across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole.
Full-scale refurbishments have already taken place at Queen’s Park, Treasure Island and Bourne Valley; work is currently underway on significant upgrades at King’s Park, Noyce Gardens and Mallard Road.
Smaller-scale improvements are taking place at dozens of other sites: including Beamish Road, Seafield Gardens and Oakdale.
