Plan for Play Newsletter – February 2026

Published 9 February 2026

Our team is at Moordown Rec play area this week to install new equipment and replace the swings – so it felt like the perfect opportunity to bring you the latest Plan for Play newsletter.

Project overview

BCP Council’s Plan for Play is a multi-year, multi-million-pound project designed to put more than 120 play spaces across Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole back at the heart of their communities.

Phase 1 had previously secured £3.9 million to prioritise urgent repairs and undertake major refurbishments at nearly 20 play spaces; this has now been boosted to £4.4 million through third-party & neighbourhood funding.

Our vision is clear – to provide spaces where everyone can learn, have fun, and be active through play, fostering brighter futures for local communities.

Project updates

We have now published the revised improvement plan which is available at our Plan for Play project page. This document provides details about how your feedback during the summer consultation has directly shaped our plans – meaning we can deliver even more refurbishments than originally planned.

Alongside the improvement plan we have provided an indicative timeline for the delivery of major improvements across the next 14 months, which is available at the same page. These bigger upgrades will take place alongside continuing defect repair work. In recent weeks we’ve repaired swings at Mallard Road, fixed the goal at Seafield Gardens and resurfaced the Kingston Road play space.

Next steps

We are working with suppliers on designs for all refurbishments, replacements and one brand new play space in Phase 1. Design briefs have been issued to suppliers for Mallard Road, Noyce Gardens and Muscliff Park and we await their proposals.

We continue to investigate additional funding opportunities and are working with community groups on this. For any queries please email our team at greenspaces@bcpcouncil.gov.uk or visit the Plan for Play FAQ page.
