Tuckers Field Improvements, Hamworthy

Last updated 12 February 2024

The Project

Improvements to Tuckers Field are complete!

Works included:

  • Creating better views into the space from Tuckers Lane for surveillance
  • New fencing to provide a secure boundary, and welcoming entrances with self-closing gates and signs.
  • Benches to sit, rest, and enjoy nature.
  • A natural play trail of logs, stepping stones and carved posts.
  • Ground levelling to create an area suitable for ball games.

We hope to further enhance this space with planting of fruit trees, shrubs and wildflowers in the future.

Thank you to everyone who took part and contributed their views in the process of the project.

The Works

Completed in February 2024, the project aimed to give local residents an alternative to the other parks in the area, increasing their wellbeing and sense of community through easy access to nature and increased recreational opportunities, while potentially reducing overuse of other local greenspaces.

Photos from 20 November (L-R) show preparations for the new play & agility trail; new benches have been installed, and the ballgames area is being levelled. Along the boundary with Tuckers Lane, new fencing is being installed, and vegetation has been cut back to allow better views into the site

The Plan for improvement

In 2022 the Friends of Hamworthy Park asked people’s views on what would enable them to better utilise Tuckers Field. Priorities identified were a secure boundary to Tuckers Lane, benches and new natural play features. People also wanted to see a grassed area suitable for ball games.
